The Kincardine Brass Band was founded in the fall of 2001. This inter-generational band is a British-style brass band composed of traditional instruments such as cornets, tenor and baritone horns, euphoniums, trombones and basses. The KBB plays a variety of music including marches, arrangements of traditional tunes, sacred pieces, and some popular music. Members of the Kincardine Brass Band hail from Port Elgin, Hanover, Wingham, Goderich and many points in between. Most members of the band belong to at least one other band, and in most cases, more than one.
Band director, Nancy Ross, of Goderich, is a UWO graduate with degrees in Music and Education. Nancy is a retired elementary school music teacher. When she is not directing the Kincardine Brass Band, Nancy directs the handbell ensembles at Lakeshore United Church, plays in The Suncoast Brass Quartet, the Goderich Laketown Band, the Lighthouse Swing Band, and the Kincardine Community Concert Band.
In the past 15 years, the KBB has competed in the community band class of the Stratford Festival for the Performing Arts, has performed annually in the Music in the Park series sponsored by the Kincardine Community Concert Band, and in Goderich, Southampton, Lions Head, Walkerton, and Port Elgin.
